Recruitment agencies provide best leads for top jobs
This week I continued to focus on determining the top 5 jobs. My private contacts and references have not provided much insight. The best data this week actually came from calling recruiters who’d posted positions on employment websites such as naukri.com. On hindsight starting with this approach would have made sense, as recruitment agencies are likely to best understand the job market.
One key learning from this week was that employees need to be more confident around the office, and understand workplace mannerisms. For example, one recruiter mentioned that new employees behave like students, constantly asking for permission from their seniors. The most openings are as front-desk/secretarial positions. The recruiters emphasized that prospective employees should know Internet skills (primarily e-mail).
Two interesting findings: recruiters mentioned almost an ‘unlimited’ number of positions for females to work at the front-desk, and a big shortage in supply. Also, there is still a strong preference in industry for competency in English, but there are still jobs available in smaller companies for non-English speakers.
My target this week was to finalize the top 5 jobs available. However, after finding some more leads, I want to take another week and follow up references with call centers and BPOs, and then finalize the list. .
