Major turn in curriculum development

Posted By Ashish

My major goal was to continue to support Anjuli in her cause to develop the curriculum while I attended an Indicorps workshop in Ahmedabad. One major development was the discovery of freely available curriculum from the Microsoft Unlimited Potential program. The curriculum is available translated into different languages, including English and Hindi. After examining the content, the team decided to repurpose the content to meet the requirements of the curriculum we’d drawn up.

Downloading the curriculum itself was a challenge – around 400MB in size, it was an impossible task on the dial-up connection in Bagar, and had to be downloaded and sent from Jaipur. This serves as another example of the immense impact broadband connectivity will have on the productivity of GDL. Thus, one of the goals this coming week is to make a final go/no-go decision on whether to wirelessly beam broadband from Jhunjhunu (see earlier post on the subject).

This next week, I will also be preparing a report on the top computer-based jobs. I will also be designing a survey this week to assess the demand for the course, and whether students who take the course will be prepared to migrate to nearby cities for jobs at the salaries being offered.
